In Takoma Park, garden centers are busiest on spring weekends, when new stock arrives and popular plants sell out; weekday mornings are calmer and staff have more time to answer questions. Ask which plants are hardy for your USDA zone in Maryland, whether trees and shrubs carry a replacement guarantee (one year is common), and whether the nursery delivers and plants large items. Fall is the best planting season for many trees and perennials, and end-of-season sales are common. Many nurseries close or shorten hours in winter, so check the listing for current hours and Google rating before you go.

Takoma Park is in Maryland, in the Northeast, where four distinct seasons shape local life: hot humid summers, snowy winters that can close businesses for a day, and a dense pattern of towns where walking, transit and street parking all matter. Getting around Takoma Park is easiest by car; street parking is metered in busy downtown areas, and most suburban businesses have their own lot. Ride-share apps such as Uber and Lyft operate across Maryland's larger cities, and public transit varies from extensive to minimal.

First off, this isn't the easiest place to find. Look for their sign outside, go up the steps, and follow the hallway to the right. Set up in a series of old co-work offices this plant shop is pretty ingenuitive. With two rooms for plants with bright light needs and a third room for low light they have space for a little bit of everything. The staff person I worked with was super knowledgeable and friendly and just really seemed to love working there. A great variety of plants, from common to rare-ish. The prices are pretty on par with most other 'boutique' plant shops but I'd rather pay more to know my plant is pest free and will take well. Also the take one leave one prop wall is such and good and community focuses idea!

I googled this place based on proximity and went based on good reviews. Itβs a cute little shop. Variety is not super extensive but it has plenty to choose from. Agnes is super helpful. Iβm super happy with my plant; thank you!

I stumbled on Indigro via a pop-up shop collaboration this shop did with a local artist (clay pots + plants) on Shop Made in DC. I started following her on Instagram (@indigroplants) and saw a story one day of a string of hearts plant, which is hard to find and really cool. Long story short, she held it for me while I made some other plant/planter decisions and helped me find just the right planter with drainage for it. I also got an absolutely gorgeous maidenhair fern in a modern planter from her, and even my husband who doesn't get plants said it was special. I love that she has more unique plants than many other local shops and has excellent customer service, including free delivery within a 10 mile radius (we're in DC). Highly recommend!

Discovered Indigro at a Made in DC event before things shut down, and honestly could not be more grateful! I don't know what it is about her plants, but they definitely seem to be incredibly resilient (I've had a few causalities during quarantine, but all my indigro plant babies are thriving). She will answer any questions you may have, and readily offers advice, which is incredibly helpful as I live in a low-light basement unit and am a little clueless when it comes to plants. The free delivery within 10 miles is also an added bonus. Overall, highly recommend, super responsive on IG and very friendly!
